CSLP request to libraries with orders that have not yet shipped:
Due to the unprecedented number of library closures as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, CSLP will be placing all orders on temporary hold until further notice.
To receive your order before the hold is lifted, you will need to send one of the following to: update at cslpreads.org<mailto:update at cslpreads.org>

  * Confirmation that your library is able to receive packages at the address provided in the original order
  * Provide an alternate address (such as a residential address) where your order can be shipped
  * Indicate that you would like to have your order held at a local UPS depot for pick up
Libraries who do not respond will not receive their orders until routine shipping resumes; to be determined. Thank you.

CSLP resource packet: An ad hoc committee is finalizing a packet that will be available to public libraries to print or post to share directly with families to support #ImagineYourStory. There'll be early literacy section, child, teen, adult, and family sections. All activities are easily done from home. Details coming soon.

For some children, home is not a safe place. Take a deeper look at what some children might be experiencing in this time of crisis, how it might affect learning, how to recognize the signs of abuse, and how public libraries might best serve these children. Dr. Amelia Siders will be our presenter, she is the Director of Clinical Practice Development and Education, at the Children's Advocacy Centers of Michigan.
Children's Advocacy Centers (CACs) partner with prosecutors, law enforcement, and protective services to coordinate the investigation of child maltreatment-often child sexual abuse. CACs also provide support to child survivors of abuse so that those kids can get back to being kids.

"Story" is a part of a child's first language and key to exploring and understanding their world. Imaginative play is essential to a healthy childhood and a more compassionate, fulfilling adulthood. And so, providing children opportunities for open-ended narrative play with puppets and props will not only allow them to develop social skills like sharing and cooperation, it will also help use their imagination to grow in language and literacy! In this webinar, facilitated by Storyteller and Narrative Consultant, Jenifer Strauss, learn how to provide children with simple puppets and props from every-day household items to provide "anytime, anywhere" opportunities for narrative play.

Parents and caregivers know the value of the storytime programs; librarians not only provide valuable language experiences, they model good practices! But how do we help parents understand that language experience is something they can provide for their children all-day, every day? Storyteller and Narrative Consultant, Jenifer Strauss will model a Ready-to-Use Parent Presentation that librarians can use to encourage parents to engage their children in quality language experiences during the course of a regular day with their kids.
