Pressures to reopen are growing. Communities need their library spaces and their services more than ever. Is the library still a Third Place?  How soon can it be again? We’ll discuss these and other challenges being met by two outstanding libraries.

Silke Niermann,  CEO of Stadtbibliothek Gütersloh GmbH  (Northrhine-Westfalia, Germany) since 2015; 30 years working as an librarian in german public libraries; about 22 years as a director;  since 2019 chairwoman of the section 2 in the German Library Association  ( Section 2: Public library systems and libraries for service areas from 100,000 to 400,000 inhabitants)  -103.000 inhabitants in Gütersloh, one main library in town and 9 school-libraries (only for pupils), since 1984 organized like a company (GmbH), shareholders are the city of Gütersloh and the Bertelsmann Foundation, 98.057 physical media, 85.804 digital media, 578.432 loans p.a.
