Due to a retirement, the Northville District Library seeks an enthusiastic, accomplished, and innovative Librarian for a full-time position as its Assistant Director. 

Position: Assistant Director 
40 hours per week, including some weekends and evenings 

Salary Range: $65,000-$70,000 based upon prior work experience 

Benefits: Health Insurance (medical, dental, and vision), disability insurance,and MERS retirement. Paid time off includes sick, vacation, holiday, and personal business time. 

Essential Duties Include: 

• Assists with the day-to-day operation of the library and serves in absence of director 
• Develops and implements library procedures 
• Leads special fundraising projects as assigned 
• Manages eContent collection with Digital Services Librarian 
• Oversees the library’s marketing, public relations, and social media activities 
• Recommends changes in programs and services based upon new developments in the library field 
• Schedules librarian service desk hours 
• Supervises Digital Services Librarian, PR Associate, and Substitute Librarians 
• Cultivates and maintains liaison relationships with the Northville District Library Board of Trustees, the Friends of the Northville District Library, and Northville Public Schools 
• Communicates effectively with staff and patrons 
• Participates in Continuing Education opportunities, especially those which spotlight new trends and technology in library marketing efforts and innovation in digital branding 

Required Qualifications: 

• Master Degree in library science from an ALA-accredited college or university 
• Possess a Level I Permanent Professional Certificate from the Library of Michigan 
• Five years’ experience in a library setting with a minimum of three years of prior experience supervising personnel and managing budgets 
• Ability to adapt to change in work environment 
• Ability to create new services and procedures incorporating new theories and technologies as applicable 
• Critical thinking skills 
• Excellent interpersonal, communication (oral and written) skills 
• Experience in working independently and as part of a team 
• Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the staff and the public 
• Strong public service orientation 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Knowledge of the principles and practices of marketing and community relations 
• Ability to develop and implement creative marketing approaches to reach targeted audiences 
• Awareness of public library trends, issues, and emerging technologies 
• Experience with community fundraising
