Immediate supervisor: Circulation Supervisor
Work schedule: This is a part time, benefits-eligible, twelve-month support staff position. Typical hours are 25 hours per week, primarily between 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday, though some weekend or evenings may be assigned.
Nature of duties: Under the general direction of the Circulation Supervisor, the Document Delivery Specialist coordinates document delivery services for Kalamazoo College students, faculty and staff. This position is responsible for interlibrary loan and other document delivery activities, ensuring copyright compliance in document delivery, supervising student assistants, and supervising the circulation desk as needed.
Document Delivery
* Uses resource sharing software Tipasa to provide efficient delivery of materials
* Trains and supervises student workers involved in resource sharing
* Creates and maintains process and procedure documentation related to resource sharing
* Processes overdue notices and invoices for incoming and outgoing items as needed
* Develops and maintains policies and procedures for document delivery
* Ensures copyright compliance and deals with copyright issues related to interlibrary loan
* Maintains familiarity with new software and other technological advances that increases the efficiency of document delivery and circulation operations
* Assists patrons by locating materials, explaining policies, resolving request errors or difficulties, and referring patrons to other information sources
* Assists at the circulation desk as needed
* Maintains statistics and drafts reports on services provided and future services needed
* Other duties as assigned by the Circulation Supervisor or Library Director
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; library or related experience; experience and comfort with navigating complex computer software interfaces; demonstrated commitment to customer service and working with a diverse population; excellent critical thinking and time management skills; ability to: manage detail, meet deadlines, supervise student workers, speak and write effectively, ability to organize and maintain records; ability to prepare reports and perform data analysis; willingness to work effectively in a collaborative team environment; sense of humor and collegial approach to innovation and problem solving.
Desired: Knowledge of document delivery systems including OCLC; experience with an integrated library system; experience with automated interlibrary loan systems, preferably Tipasa; working knowledge of LC classification schedules, LCSH, and MARC formats. Requires ability to work in a library and office environment, with extensive use of computer and telephone.
Physical requirements of the position include ability to work in a library/office environment with extensive use of computer and telephone; ability to lift and carry up to ten pounds; ability to read and write and to handle and process both paper and electronic documents; ability to move between and within campus buildings.
