Hopkins District Library is in search of a Library Director. Hopkins District Library is a Class II library severing approximately 4700 people in Hopkins Village, Hopkins Township, and parts of Monterey and Watson Townships. The annual budget is approximately $128,000

    * Administration: Holds full responsibility for administration of the library within the framework of the library's plan, Board policies, the budget and knowledge of applicable laws. Reports at each Board meeting and keeps the Board informed of the library's progress and needs. Attends all regular and special Board Meetings. Serves as ex officio, non-voting member of all library committees. 
    * Leadership: Analyzes strengths and weakness of the library. Presents plans for growth and implementing goals. Initiates new library services and improvement to existing services. Negotiates all library agreements and contracts. Updates computer programs as needed. Order/purchase supplies as needed. 
    * Policy: Presents and drafts policies on direction of the library Board. Works with various committees on development of policies. Advises Board on merit of decisions being considered. Interpret policies to staff. Maintains up to date policy manual. 
    * Finance: Develops and presents a yearly budget for Board approval. Oversees and approves expenditures as authorized in the budget. Responsible for maintenance of financial records and arranges annual audits. Arranges for monthly Board bill reviews. Inputs all data concerned with monthly financial responsibilities. Meets budgetary objectives while staying within financial guidelines. Works with Board members to maintain and obtain sources of revenue. Makes deposits of cash receipts in a timely manner. 
    * Continuing Education: Orients new Board members. Keeps staff and Board informed of developments in the library field. Provides opportunity for trustees and staff to attend workshops and educational seminars. 
    * Grants: Writes grant proposals and supervises successful completion of grant process. Works with staff to write grant proposals and supervise completion. 
    * Personnel: Provides appropriate job descriptions for all staff and maintains personnel files. Has authority to employ, direct, evaluate and terminate employees after following the disciplinary policy with approval of the Board. Recommends changes in work conditions, benefits and salary when appropriate, Capitalizes on skills and initiatives of all staff. 
    * Representation: Represents the interest of the library and Board by participating in area library associations and in Lakeland Library Cooperative and State Library activities. Maintains membership in community service organizations. 
    * Board Meeting: Prepares and presents reports including monthly financial and statistical reports. Prepares and files annual State Aid reports and any other needed special reports. 



Experience Needed 

    * Knowledge, skills and abilities: Comprehensive knowledge of public libraries including goals and objectives. Experience with Library Automations systems. 
    * Excellent oral and written communication skills. Works effectively with others. 
    * Understanding of accounting and Quickbooks software. Ability to prepare financial and statistical reports. 
    * Valid MI drivers license or ability to obtain a MI license is required 
    * Bachelor's degree required. Preferred experience in public library management. Experience with writing and supervising grants. 



Hourly position: 20-25 hours weekly, may have to work weekends 

Holidays off 

Target start date: March 1, 2022
