Library Director 




Allendale Charter Township is hiring a Library Director for their Allendale, MI library. This position will report to the Township Supervisor. The salary range for this position is $49,509 - $69,313.

Essential Job Functions 




    1. Prepares work schedules and assists Township Supervisor with employee supervision, employee relationships, employee job performance, delegation of work assignments, and personnel matters. 
    2. Drafts and recommends policy to the Library Board and implements changes to reach public library goals and objectives. 
    3. Evaluates and administers library services such as circulation, reference, reader's advisory, adult and children's programs, and community outreach. 
    4. Develops and maintains the library's print and digital collections including selection, organization, withdrawal, and disposal of materials, either directly or through appropriate delegation. 
    5. Creates and monitors the budget. Directs and controls the expenditure of departmental fund allocations within the constraints of the approved budget. 
    6. Confers with state agencies, other libraries, businesses, and community groups regarding the development and implementation of library programming and services. 
    7. Directs the training of library staff in technical and administrative library skills. 
    8. Maintains library website and monitors library statistics. 
    9. Directs and delegates print marketing and social media advertisement of library services and programs. 
    10. Directs the development, repair, and maintenance of the library building. 
    11. Represents the library on local and state committees and promotes and publicizes the library's collections, services, and programs within the community. 
    12. Oversees the library volunteer program, including recruitment, training, scheduling, and supervision of volunteers. 





Knowledge/Skill Requirements 




    1. Minimum of 4 years increasingly responsible experience as a librarian 
    2. Professional experience in a public library environment 
    3. Thorough knowledge of the principles, theories, objectives, and practices of library management and library science 
    4. Committed to excellence in customer service 
    5. Strong oral and written communications skills 
    6. Ability to work independently 
    7. Ability to organize work for efficient use of time 
    8. Ability to prepare administrative reports in a clear, logical manner 
    9. Ability to understand and interpret library policies, procedures, and rules 
    10. Ability to keep records accurately 
    11. Ability to interact courteously and effectively with elected and appointed officials, town employees, library staff and volunteers, the library's business contacts, and the general public 
    12. Considerable knowledge of supervision, training, and staff utilization principles 
    13. Ability to plan, organize, supervise, and evaluate the work of employees and volunteers in diversified library activities 
    14. Ability to initiate, organize, and follow through on programs, services, and projects 
    15. Solid knowledge of current trends and developments in the library profession 
    16. Thorough knowledge of library resources: print, non-print, and electronic 
    17. Knowledge of library automation (Preferred) 
    18. Working knowledge of public relations procedures 
    19. Ability to represent the library at professional and community meetings 



Education Requirements 




    1. Masters in Library Science from an ALA-accredited college or university 
    2. Have a Level 1 Library of Michigan Certification, or have ability to obtain within 1 year of hire
