Position Announcement: SPARTA CARNEGIE TOWNSHIP LIBRARY DIRECTOR 




The Sparta Carnegie Township Library Board of Trustees is accepting resumes for the part-time position of Library Director due to a retirement after 29 years. 




This community focused library is looking for a collaborative leader who enjoys working with others, and can provide a clear vision, strong organizational and communication skills and exciting and innovative services and programs. 




The Library, established as a township library in 1917, serves a population of 9,110 (2010 Census) in Kent County (approximately 15 miles from Grand Rapids) in West Michigan and is a member of the Lakeland Library Cooperative and their shared automated library system. 




QUALIFICATIONS: 




This position requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, and at least three years of professional library employment including a broad background in management, administration, operations and finance, knowledge of public library services and operation of library collections, or its equivalent. Upon hiring, the library director is expected to earn Librarian Certification Level 3, and perform the completion of the Beginning Library Workshop offered by the Library of Michigan. 




SALARY AND BENEFITS: 

This is a 34 hour a week part-time position with an hourly rate of $23.00 and includes 18 days of PTO and an additional 8 paid holidays. No other benefits are provided. 




DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: 

· Draft and recommend policy and procedures, and report directly to Sparta Township library board for their implementation. Administer the library in accordance with adopted policies and interpret policies to staff and public. 




· Responsible for hiring, dismissal, discipline, instruction of job functions, training and education of employees. 




· Attend all regular and special meetings of the library board. Attend meetings of Sparta Township Board when applicable to maintaining/implementing library policies and procedures. 




· Be active in the Lakeland Library Cooperative meetings. Bring information from the Co-op to staff and library board. Represent the library and vote in accordance with the standards of our community and library board. 




· Hold regular staff meetings and receive ideas and comments about library functions, staff needs and employee requests. Keep minutes of staff meetings and report to library board. 




· Compile monthly , quarterly, and year-end reports for presentation to the library board. Compile statistics needed to complete the state aid report with the assistance of the library board treasurer. 




· Develop grant proposals when applicable . 




· Work with the library board treasurer and associate library director to prepare and present to the library board recommendations for the fiscal year based on the library’s anticipated needs, and operate the library within the budget allotment. 




· Purchase material which includes audio-visual, print, and digital material, and oversee the material selection purchases of the youth librarian and associate director. 




· Negotiate all agreements and contracts and oversee maintenance and improvement of library facilities. 




· Possess ability to understand and utilize established and new technology, including software, hardware, library and business applications, tools and devices. 




· Assist at circulation desk as relief or substitute during breaks, vacations or illness. 




· Maintain copies of donations and memorials. Reply to donors who give to memorials and donate resources. 




· This position requires much contact with the public, responding to questions, sharing information, explaining issues and procedures, interpreting data, providing advice and assistance, conflict resolution and problem solving.
