School Library Journal presents SLJTeen Live, a free virtual event, Thursday, August 5 from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.
It's a day full of live author panels and library programming sessions all about teen literature, teen authors, teen librarians, and teens!
So much of adolescence is preparing for the future-college, careers, adulthood, the next grade-and that's even tougher when no one knows what the future will look like. After a pandemic and amid continued tragedies of racist violence, teens and adults alike are called to heal and grow, to learn more, and to further conversations about history and justice. Through it all, books reflect and illuminate our lives, telling boundary-pushing stories that take publishing to the next level. The conference's author panels and library programming sessions will help you support and engage teens in this new moment and beyond. Attendees can explore the virtual exhibit hall, download materials, enter contests, hear directly from publishers about their newest books, and live chat with staff, authors, and peers. Can't make all or part of the day? All sessions and author chats will be available for viewing on-demand within an hour of the initial broadcast, and the entire event will be available on-demand for three months. Join Dr. Jean and Carolyn Kisloski and discover how to TEACH the WHOLE child with hands-on activities, games, centers, and PLAY! This edWebinar will be of interest to all educators interested in early childhood education including teachers, librarians, childcare providers and administrators, and school and district leaders.
Supporting Teen Services: Fostering Community, Programming, and Outreach eCourse<https://www.alastore.ala.org/content/supporting-teen-services-fostering-community-programming-and-outreach-ecourse?_zs=v6niW1&_zl=XCHg7> - ALA
More and more public libraries recognize that for their library to remain relevant to teens they must consider the way teens desire to interact, create, and drive their own library experience. Teenagers enter the library with a unique set of needs, expectations, and capacities that make them a vital and distinctive user group. To serve this population effectively, it's not enough to know how to answer their reference questions or acquire YA novels-you need to be able to work with teens, not just for them or alongside them.
Offering a fresh perspective on teen services, this course covers everything from programs, psychology, and physical spaces to collections and getting buy-in from young adult patrons.
Whether you are an experienced teen librarian seeking to revitalize your practice, or are new to serving teens, you will find this course beneficial. Jennifer Velásquez, Teen Services Coordinator for the San Antonio Public Library, teaches you how to use teen personalities, psychology, and innovative communication strategies to enhance your services and help teens take ownership of their library.
Remember, the LM CE Stipend might reimburse conference or course fees. Check details on how to apply: www.Mi.gov/CEstipend<http://www.Mi.gov/CEstipend>.
