Digital Services Librarian I (Part-time)
Starting at $18.50-$28.50/hour
Wage based on qualifications

The Troy Public Library is the hub of the vibrant, dynamic, and diverse City of Troy. The Library sees over 700,000 in person and online visitors per year and serves an educated and involved community.

Under the direction of the Head of Digital Services, the Librarian I (Digital Services Librarian) performs a variety of professional and public service tasks in order to support the library's digital services and technology initiatives. Work involves researching, implementing and promoting new technology and software to fulfill patron needs and help staff work more effectively.

DUTIES
Under the supervision of the Head of Digital Services, works as a public service librarian specializing in technology resources, including electronic references, downloadable eBooks and audiobooks, and databases.
Develops and leads high quality technology classes and programs.
Assist technology room patrons, troubleshoot computer hardware and software issues.
Monitor patrons' use of the library public computers and enforce computer use policy.
Apply a full working knowledge of all forms of technology, especially laptops, smartphones, tablets, and e-readers.
Utilizes library and technology systems to provide efficient service and perform reference and user guidance.
Assist with the creation of a TPL Maker Space and programming related to a Maker Space.
Perform related duties and general library reference services work as required.

REQUIREMENTS
Master of Library Science degree from a library school accredited by the American Library Association.
An interest in new and emerging technology trends in libraries including Maker Spaces.
Proficiency with electronic databases, Microsoft Office applications, social network sites and the Internet as well as electronic devices such as e-readers and tablets.
Proficiency using multiple devices and platforms, including iOS, Android, MacOS, and Windows.
Ability to interact courteously and effectively with the public, library staff, library volunteers, and other City departments.
Ability to work in a collaborative, dynamic, fast-paced environment, using excellent organizational and time management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information in an appropriate and secure manner.
As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must pass a background check and pre-employment physical and drug screen (including marijuana).

PREFERENCES
Previous/current paid work experience in a public library.
Prefer experience with makerspaces e.g., 3D printers, laser engravers, etc.
Experience with library electronic resources, e.g. OverDrive, hoopla, and other relevant software.
Experience in technology instruction.
Experience with Polaris library system software.

HOURS
Part-time, year-round. Up to twenty (20) hours per week. Schedule will include day, evening and weekend shifts.

Digital Services Library Aide (Part-time)
Troy Public Library
Starting at $13.00/hour

The Troy Public Library is the hub of the vibrant, dynamic, and diverse City of Troy. The Library sees over 700,000 visitors per year and serves an educated and involved community. Being engaged with up-to-date technology is a priority and a value to Library staff, residents, and businesses.

DUTIES
Monitor patrons' use of the library public computers and enforce computer use policy.
Manage patron issues in the computer lab, and enforce all of the policies around that, food, noise, time, managing Envisionware.
Assist technology center patrons, troubleshoot computer hardware and software issues.
Apply a full working knowledge of all forms of technology, especially laptops, smartphones, tablets, and e-readers.
Assist with teaching computer classes to the public.
Perform related duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS
High school degree or GED equivalent and a minimum of sixty (60) semester hours or ninety (90) quarter hours of college credits. Applicants with an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Selected candidate(s) must submit proof of educational attainment and official transcripts at time of offer.
Ability to interact courteously and effectively with the public, library staff, library volunteers, and other City departments.
Ability to work in a collaborative, dynamic, fast-paced environment, using excellent organizational and time management skills.
Proficiency with electronic resources, Microsoft Office applications, social networking sites, and mobile technology.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency using multiple devices and platforms, including iOS, Android, macOS, and Windows.
As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen (including marijuana).

PREFERENCES
Prefer course work in Library Science.
Prefer experience with makerspaces e.g., 3D printers, laser engravers, etc.
Prefer previous clerical experience and strong keyboarding/data entry skills.
Strongly prefer recent experience working with the public in a technology support environment.
Experience with library electronic resources, e.g. OverDrive, Hoopla, and other relevant software.

HOURS
Part-time; Year-round.

Average of twenty (20) hours per week; Schedule will include at least one evening shift per week and at least two weekend shifts per month.
