We have a policy of no less than two staff members if doors are unlocked. No one should be in an unlocked building alone! We are class two.

I'm trying to convince my Board that we need to have 2 people on duty at all times during open hours. All of us would be considered part-time as the library is usually open 33.5 hours/week, and I usually work about 21 hours/week, which is the most here, including my other 2 staff. There often are times when only 1 person is working. We have no volunteers.

Do you have concerns about the safety of the staff? Do you know of any situations where the safety of your staff was a concern? What are your thoughts? I also know if someone wants to do something "bad" or be disruptive, there is no precautions that you could do that would stop them, even having two people. However, I believe there are steps we/I can take to make it less likely for someone to even consider.
