The Salem Township (Burnips, MI) Library Board of Trustees is accepting resumes for the position of Library Director due to the retirement of their current director. Salem Township Library, established in 1996 serves a population of 7,357 in 71.58 square miles in Salem and Overisel Townships in Allegan County in West Michigan. The library is a single branch and maintains a 5600 square foot facility that was renovated in 2011. This is a part-time position of 30 hours per week with an hourly salary of $23.00.

Job Description: 



General Summar y : 



The Library D i rector i s respons i b l e f o r all library operations: creating, establishing and i m p l ement i ng p l an s , programs, and policies adopted by t he Board of Trustees in the areas of financial management, program and collection development, staff development and supervision, and facility maintenance and community outreach. 



Essenti al Functions and Duties: 



· Oversees and evaluates the o pera t i on of the l i brar y . 

· Develops l ibrary po l i c i es and procedure s , i mplements and admin i sters them upon approval of the l ibrary board . 

· Formulates and develops l i brary goals and objectives and plans library services to meet them . 

· Promotes and publicizes library services and programs . 

· Supervises all library staff . Imp l ements board personnel polic i es and is respons i ble for recru i t i n g , i nterv i ew i n g , h i r i ng and t raining new employees , and for evaluating performance and mak i ng termination dec i s i ons for all staff. 

· Implements regul ar staff meetings . 

· Prepares an annual budget and administers and monitors the e x penditure of funds . 

· Negotiates all library agreements for services and purchases, presenting all contracts and recommendations to the library board . 

· Oversees fun d ra i s i ng activit i es for the librar y , i nc l uding writing grant proposals and assuring successful com p l e t i on of grant project s . 

· I s respon s i b l e for collection development and collection management . 

· Prepa r es monthly financial , circulation , department and program reports for the l ib rary board . 

· Attends all regul ar and special meetings of the Salem Township Library Board of Trustees . 

· Maintains active i nvolvement by the library w i thin the Lake l and Library Cooperativ e . 

· Represents the library at meetings and conferences of county, state , regional , and national professional l i brary assoc i ation s . 

· M a i ntains confident i a l ity of all patron records and transac t i on s . 

· Ma i ntains l i brary equipment inventory records . 

· Performs all other duties as assigned by the Board of Trustees . 



Educati on, Certification and Experience: 



· This is a 30 hour per week position. 

· A bachelor’s degree is required. A Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited university or another advanced degree is desirable but not required. 

· At l east 4 years successful e x pe r i ence i n a public l i brary setting. 2 of those 4 years in a supervisory or admin i stra t i ve capacity preferre d . 

· Michigan State Certification or eligibility for state certification as a library director of a Class II Public Library. 

· Library experience and knowledge of current library practices. 

· Demonstrated administrative, management and fiscal ability. 

· Excellent oral and written communication skills. 

· Ability to deal with the public and staff 

· Computer skills and/or experience with library automation systems, digital materials and new technologies. 

· A performance review will be conducted by the library board 6 months from the hiring date based on the job description. There after yearly performance reviews will be conducted by the library board.
