Just wanted to put in a last reminder here since we have 2 seats left for the June 8 Mental Health First Aid class on June 8.  Please see below for full details and the registration link.  This class is accepting registration from staff working in academic (college and university) libraries only. Another training session is scheduled for July 20 and will accept registrations from all library types when it opens. Please find a registration link below for the June 8 class.

Mental Health First Aid Adults Training for Academic Library Staff

The Library of Michigan is offering a session open only to academic library staff on June 8, 2021 for Mental Health First Aid-Adults.

Like CPR, Mental Health First Aid prepares participants to interact with a person in crisis and connect the person with help. First Aiders do not take on the role of professionals they do not diagnose or provide any counseling or therapy. Instead, the program offers concrete tools and answers key questions, like what do I do? and where can someone find help?

Certified Mental Health First Aid instructors provide a list of community healthcare providers and national resources, support groups, and online tools for mental health and addictions treatment and support. All trainees receive a program manual to compliment the course material.

The Mental Health First Aid training includes a 2-hour self-paced course, followed by a 5.5 hour instructor led training. Participants who do not complete the self-paced portion or attend the full instructor led day will not be eligible to receive a certificate of completion.

Because seating is limited and a specialized certification is issued, you will need to agree to a number of stipulations and complete the MSU Extension registration here.  Please review the details on the registration site before completing your registration.

Participants who do not complete the self-paced portion, attend the full instructor led day, or do not complete the post-work and evaluation will not be eligible to receive a certificate of completion. Cancellations must be received at least three business days prior to the class. Participants who register for a training and fail to cancel at least three business days prior and no-show will be charged a $50 cancellation fee.
