This webinar will provide an overview of how a group of academic and public librarians in Laramie, Wyoming provided a series of programming about African American poetry and music.
Presenters will talk about how they pivoted from a programming series initially intended to be in-person to a fully virtual set of programs during the COVID pandemic. They will share practical tips for what to keep in mind when planning accessible virtual programs, how academic and public libraries can collaborate to create dynamic programming that appeals to all ages, and how you can produce a video event.
Finally, they will discuss the good and the bad and note areas where practices can be improved to help you avoid pitfalls in advance when planning remote programs!
If you're interested but not able to attend the live webinar, go ahead and register. We'll send a recording to all registrants after the fact.

Post-Pandemic Tips to Support SPED Students in (and Out) of the Classroom
edWeb Recording: https://home.edweb.net/webinar/specialed20210901/
As schools open for in-person learning after over a year of hybrid or completely remote instruction, educators will be faced with students returning with varying degrees of readiness. Some students thrived, while others will need more specialized instruction and supports to help them access grade-level content.
Students in special education, who were disproportionately impacted due to the loss of special services and accommodations, are of extra concern. Despite the challenges, educators found innovative ways to incorporate technology to engage students. Watch this edWebinar to learn from two seasoned educators who will share the challenges, lessons learned, and tips for student success in the new school year. Viewers will learn:

  * Instructional methods and supports to help students with special needs access general education curricula
  * Strategies to re-engage students and parents to support their academic progress
  * Strategies to increase student independence with technology
  * Effective technology tools to integrate into the classroom

Music Play to promote readiness, literacy, math development, and inclusion. This lively session incorporates Jim Gill's<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.jimgill.com%2F&data=04%7C01%7Clancasterc5%40michigan.gov%7C2d12b3fc322d42784bdd08d979dedbbd%7Cd5fb7087377742ad966a892ef47225d1%7C0%7C0%7C637674821408394262%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&sdata=iRtcz5Iymn2JmDwop3fBmWtxQhZXAl3xaGn7rlDjmZY%3D&reserved=0> most recent songs as well as in-depth discussion connecting music play with school readiness, literacy development and early math development.
Librarians leave the session inspired to share a new repertoire of songs and playful literacy activities with the children they care for. Even more, they will leave the session understanding that what is most challenging about working in early childhood is also what makes the profession so exciting. When we define our teaching as helping children learn, we not only provide joyous challenges for the children. We also keep ourselves engaged and rejuvenated by watching their excitement as they learn. This workshop will connect with the 5 practices of Ready to Read Michigan.

Jim is a child development specialist, having completed his graduate studies in child development at the Erikson Institute of Chicago with a special emphasis on the study of play. For this reason, each of Jim's recordings and books is created as an opportunity for playful interactions between a child and a caring adult. Jim speaks to early childhood educators, care providers and children's librarians across the country about the many benefits of play in young children's lives. Jim has shared his expertise on music, play and literacy with organizations such as Head Start, the National Association for the Education of Young Children, the National Association for Family Child Care and, most recently, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Early literacy is the base upon which a child who reads with understanding is built. The goal of this 3-part workshop is to teach storytime staff how to explain, model and encourage caregivers to help their children develop the early literacy skills needed to learn how to read. Participants will become familiar with seminal research on early literacy, how to explain its importance to caregivers while presenting fun, interactive storytimes. This will also cover the 5 practices of Every Child Ready to Read, the basis of Ready to Read Michigan.
