The Board of Trustees is seeking a creative, dynamic and motivated leader as the next Director of the Eaton Rapids Area District Library. The successful candidate is excited about community involvement, is able to manage all areas of library services, and will lead library growth so that the Eaton Rapids community will be transformed with knowledge and innovation under their direction.

The Eaton Rapids Area District Library is located in historic downtown Eaton Rapids, and is one of the 10 oldest public libraries in the State of Michigan. Eaton Rapids is only minutes away from Lansing and Michigan State University where you will find top-notch theatre, dining and entertainment venues, extensive shopping, collegiate and semi-pro sports, major airports, advanced medical facilities and much more. Eaton Rapids itself has quiet traditional neighborhoods, beautiful parks, state-of-the-art Eaton Rapids Medical Center, and award winning schools.

Since 2014 the Library has gone through a radical transformation, including but not limited to, revitalizing programming, expanding the collection, beginning outreach services, increasing the services offered, and minor building improvements. In 2018, the Library reorganized with community support and became a District Library, and passed a 10 year, 1-mill millage for operating expenses.

Job Description:

The Library Director is responsible for the management and operation of the library and its program of services in accordance with policies established by the Board of Trustees.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to planning, directing, managing, and overseeing all activities, operations, and staff; coordinating activities with community organization; managing the development and implementation of library goals, objectives, and policies; selecting, training, motivating and evaluating library staff, providing or coordinating staff training; oversee, develop and administer the library budget; represent the library in the community; maintaining an effective working relationship with the Board of Trustees, and the Friends of the Eaton Rapids Area District Library; and maintaining and improving the building.


Qualifications:

  *   Master’s in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited college or university

  *   Ability to obtain a Level 1 Michigan Librarian Certificate

  *   Excellent oral and written communication skills

  *   Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  *   Strong commitment to public service excellence

  *   Self-motivated, enthusiastic, flexible and dependable

  *   Proficient in using computers and the Internet

  *   Prior management experience preferred, but not required


Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week, including evenings and weekends.

Salary/Benefits: Salary starting at $55,120.00; Health insurance (medical, dental and vision), 457 retirement plan, paid time off, and paid holidays.
