Collaborative Summer Library Program
Consider joining a CSLP committee! Sign-ups for 2023 are open until October 3rd. While the duties vary, committee obligations generally run for one calendar year. All committee work is done virtually; either through email, or through phone or online meetings. Attending the CSLP Annual Meeting is not required. For more information, please visit: https://www.cslpreads.org/join-a-cslp-committee/<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cslpreads.org%2Fjoin-a-cslp-committee%2F&data=05%7C01%7Clancasterc5%40michigan.gov%7C75b04ee0831940e548d108da844d766f%7Cd5fb7087377742ad966a892ef47225d1%7C0%7C0%7C637967765481230224%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=eZCWYDpG931hjBBhPBQFt5e2idxdb2RUa1jQ2FKkbt8%3D&reserved=0>. It's a great opportunity to network and grow professionally.

The Collaborative Summer Library Program's (CSLP) annual survey is now open and will close Friday, September 9, 2022.
CSLP has created a survey so they can better assess the usefulness of the materials offered by the program on a national level to better serve you, the CSLP membership! All public libraries in Michigan are CSLP members thanks to the Library of Michigan with support from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
The survey can be found here: https://forms.gle/Bg2izw8TrS99swn68<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fforms.gle%2FBg2izw8TrS99swn68&data=05%7C01%7CLancasterC5%40michigan.gov%7C61d1cbc8599a4e19808708da65be926d%7Cd5fb7087377742ad966a892ef47225d1%7C0%7C0%7C637934166422062524%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=Ym9UmEbzgnakSrxh1LhnKhLF0R3Fb2A4N8cLtW0pNq0%3D&reserved=0>.

Banned Books Week (BBW) is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. Banned Books Week was launched in 1982 in response to a sudden surge in the number of challenges to books in schools, bookstores and libraries. BBW highlights the value of free and open access to information. Banned Books Week brings together the entire book community - librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types - in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular.

First Book and Education Researcher Susan Neuman Launch Groundbreaking Classroom Library Tool as Students Struggle to Access Literacy Rich Environments
First Book<https://firstbook.org/solutions/literacy-rich-classrooms/>, the largest online network of educators serving children in need, in partnership with literacy expert and education researcher Susan Neuman, is launching a new tool to assess and bolster the quality and equity of classroom libraries. The Literacy Rich Classroom Library Checklist<https://firstbook.org/solutions/literacy-rich-classrooms/> offers a complete assessment of a classroom library's book collection and design features to maximize student engagement and ensure the inclusion of equitable resources that reflect the needs and interests of children in need. Classroom libraries that meet their full potential in supporting student learning take into account the presentation of the physical space, the quantity, quality and diversity of books offered, and the frequency of use.
