EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

Teen Programming Librarian

(Position: 20-26 hours per week)

POSITION DESCRIPTION: This position provides meaningful and appealing programming for teen-aged patrons, along with front-line services to patrons of all ages and other routine, supportive duties in the library.

Working Conditions

(20-26 hours per week) evenings and weekends required. Library is closed on Sundays and Mondays. One weekend rotation every four weeks: Sat 9-1.

The work environment is a general office/library environment.

Compensation

Starting salary ranges from $14.00 - $16.00 per hour, depending on education and experience.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  *   This position provides appealing, meaningful programming for teen-aged patrons, along with front-line services to patrons of all ages and other routine, supportive duties in the library

  *   Promote library services and programs by visiting schools, participating in community events, and partnering with community groups

  *   Planning, preparation, execution and evaluation of teen programming

  *   Positively reflects RCL’s mission, vision, and values to staff and the public

  *   Adhere to budget responsibilities as assigned by the Library Director

Other Duties & Responsibilities

  *   Performs direct customer service to library patrons, assisting with the location and use of library services, materials,, resources, and related systems; assists library patrons with their information, readers’ advisory, and computer need

  *   Seeks out continuing education opportunities and reads various professional journals and library listservs to keep current with library trends, developments and new technology. Attends staff and department meeting

  *   Submits and monitors grant proposals

  *   Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge and Abilities Required

  *   Experience in youth, tween and teen programming.

  *   Knowledge of developmental, recreational and educational needs of young adults

  *   Aptitude for creative projects, such as displays, crafts, decorations, and publicity

  *   Ability to communicate positively with customers and staff in a cheerful manner

  *   Strong attention to detail, with excellent organizational skills

  *   Demonstrated interest in working with tweens and teens

  *   Willingness to learn new technology, including library technologies

  *   Must be confident, personable, and a team player

  *   Must display initiative and problem-solving skills

  *   Ability to responsibly manage petty cash and cash register

  *   Strong writing skills

  *   Bachelor's Degree in educational, library-related, or family services-related field.

Knowledge and Abilities Preferred

  *   Knowledge of library principles, methods, materials, and practices

  *   Knowledge of literature for and by teens in traditional and emerging formats

  *   Experience developing and distributing promotional materials, both in print and electronic formats

  *   Experience with Grant Writing

  *   Experience with automated library circulation systems
