This year the Library of Michigan released the first version of the Beginning Workshop online. This new self-paced, online format allows any Michigan library staff member that wants to obtain a Level 3 or a Level 4 Library Staff Certification the ability to do it without the need to cover the cost of travel and lodging that comes with attending an on-site training event. Any member of the library community is welcome to apply for Library of Michigan Library Staff Certification. There is no application fee.

To learn more about how to apply for Library Staff Certification visit the LM website at www.michigan.gov/librarycertification<http://www.michigan.gov/librarycertification> You will find an online fillable PDF that you can complete and email to our certification office at LM-LibCertification at michigan.gov<mailto:LM-LibCertification at michigan.gov> After you apply you will need to complete the remaining steps to finish your application packet, including completion of the Beginning Workshop online course, providing letters indicating hours of library work, and either a college transcript sent from degree granting institution or your high school diploma. Once all the parts of your application are received and completed LM will process your application.

Beginning Workshop<https://www.michigan.gov/libraryofmichigan/0,9327,7-381-88855_89737-308787--,00.html> - A newly released online version of a previous in person training event now available for any library staff without a MLS needing to meet certification requirements for Levels 3 & 4.

If your library needs you to be certified in order to obtain State Aid funding and you were unable to complete your certification application because LM did not hold the event in 2020 or 2021 you will need to complete the course by March 1.

If your library is not in this situation you can take this course whenever you apply for certification.
Please remember completing the course does NOT mean you are certified.
You must apply for the certification via an application and provide the necessary documentation required.

You do not need to notify LM you completed this course. We can see completion records on the back end of our Niche system.

TIP! Those required to complete this course should create only one profile in the Niche system to complete the lessons. If you complete individual pieces under different logins you will not be able to complete the entire pathway and receive your certificate without taking the individual parts multiple times.
