Hello!

I'm writing to post three exciting new Outreach Services positions at the
Ypsilanti District Library. Our new branch that will open this fall allows our
Outreach Department to expand and innovate! Want to ride on a Bookmobile,
and bring library services to patrons where they are? Read on for details!

The positions are:

   - Full-time Outreach Librarian II -- Youth/Teen Services
   - Part-time Outreach Librarian II -- Youth/Teen Services
   - Part-time Outreach ParaProfessional -- Adult Services

When the Ypsilanti District Library opens a new branch this fall, our
Outreach Services Department is getting a reboot! The Department serves the
public via the YDL Bookmobile, book trike, homebound delivery service,
off-site deposit collections, programs and services for older adults,
school visits, library tours, community collaborations, and outreach
events. We seek a dynamic and innovative librarian to join the Outreach
team.



YDL utilizes Outreach to close the gap between the library and those with
barriers to accessing its services. The Department strives to make the
library fully accessible to those who do not normally use the library,
extend the library’s work outside the building walls, and develop strong
relationships with communities and partner organizations. The Outreach
Department represents the voices of underserved populations in library-wide
planning and service delivery.



*Nature of Work/Responsibilities: *Under the direction of the Head of
Outreach Services, provides library outreach services to underserved members
of the community, with a focus on youth and teens. Typical duties may
include, but are not limited to:

·         Representing YDL at community events by engaging with the
public, distributing
information, and speaking about the Library and its services.

·         Making classroom visits and attending school functions to engage
youth.

·         Regularly riding on the YDL Bookmobile, providing reference,
information, and reader’s advisory services to patrons on its neighborhood
routes.

·         Presenting storytimes and other early literacy programs on the
bookmobile and at community events.

·         Coordinating YDL’s Summer Challenge Champions program, which
brings summer learning to day campers.

·         Developing the bookmobile’s collection of materials, contributing
to YDL’s website, and participating in library-wide planning committees.

·         Successfully presenting Library field trips by communicating with
schools, providing age-appropriate research instruction, and organizing
data for outcomes analysis.

·         Collaborating with partner organizations to design and execute
programs that positively impact community youth.

·         Engaging with and supporting parent advocacy groups, such as
Success by Six, Trusted Parent Advisors, Grandparents as Parents, etc.

·         Representing YDL in community partnership coalitions and
committees, such as with Ozone House, Corner Health, Riverside Arts,
YpsiWrites, etc.

·         Assisting local partners with their own youth initiatives, such
as Ypsilanti Community Schools, Lincoln Community Schools, Rutherford Pool,
and area summer lunch sites.

·         Participating in community celebrations, such as Juneteenth,
Parkridge
Summerfest, and the July 4 parade.

·         Filling in at public service desks when necessary to ensure
excellent service

·         Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

·         Master’s Degree in Library Science or equivalent from an ALA
accredited institution

·         Enthusiastic and professional, with a passion for public service

·         Experience with underserved populations, such as immigrants,
people of color, people with disabilities, homeless people, people living
in poverty, and LGBTQ people

·         Knowledge of early childhood development and literacy

·         Reference and reader’s advisory skills, especially with children’s
and young adult literature

·         Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

·         A commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion

·         Flexible, dependable, and positive team player

·         Outreach experience desired


*Hours: *Full-time, 40 hours per week (including regularly scheduled
evenings and weekends).


*Salary/ Benefits:     *Hourly wage $24.09-$28.89, dependent on experience.
YDL offers a comprehensive benefits package including generous paid time

contribution to a MERS retirement plan. This position is part of YDL’s
AFSCME union bargaining unit.

·         Coordinating Books on Wheels, YDL’s delivery service for
homebound patrons.

·         Regularly riding on the YDL Bookmobile, providing reference,
information, and reader’s advisory services to patrons on its neighborhood
routes.

·         Making visits to senior gathering places, such as retirement
homes and community centers, to engage older adults in both learning and
enrichment opportunities.

·         Collaborating with external organizations and local agencies to
design and execute Library programs that positively impact older members of
the community.

·         Developing programs for older adults, such as YDL’s Learning
Never Gets Old (LNGO) events and Senior Advisory Group.

·         Serving as liaison to the Washtenaw County Library for the Blind
and Print Disabled.

·         Filling in at public service desks when necessary to ensure
excellent service.

·         Participating in community celebrations, such as Juneteenth and
July 4 parade.

·         Other duties as assigned



*Qualifications and Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: *

·         Associate’s Degree in a relevant field

·         Experience with and enthusiasm for working with older adults

·         Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

·         Strong commitment to public service

·         Enthusiastic, patient, and friendly demeanor

·         A commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion

·         A valid Michigan driver’s license

·         Flexible, dependable, and positive team player

·         Public library experience preferred

*Hours:*  Part-time, 20 hours per week (including regularly scheduled
evenings and weekends).

*Salary/ Benefits:     *Hourly wage $17.98 - $21.01, dependent on
experience. Pro-rated paid time off and holidays, and an employer
contribution to a MERS retirement plan, with optional 457, FSA, and AFLAC. This
position is part of YDL’s AFSCME union bargaining unit.
