Every Child A Reader/Children's Book Week Update
We will hold the first annual Floyd Cooper Day<https://everychildareader.net/cbw/floyd-cooper-day-2022/> on May 6, during Spring Children's Book Week (May 2-8), in celebration of his inspiring and powerful work as an award-winning illustrator and author.
Teachers, librarians, and booksellers are encouraged to read his stories and put up displays of some of his beloved books. You can see a list of his books in print at Every Child a Reader.<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fr20.rs6.net%2Ftn.jsp%3Ff%3D001hHqEywoqppWOpo5Nlwls14kte1xQbXL-qHv6kVnvr9WKvpj13uljWox3R-BcaW7k86lLFANe8TqrhAIxjO3Lf7EbVNz092ym5gZXxkMDdZ19GjncQ-ToFbDcaw7gRjcpBiCK5ICvzFhmRUF6kkTO3MsqRHPhcrr5NHEos8eShb9QgcGbJZVuU-rZ4eIM-wkC%26c%3DskZcaR5qt87GO8eHMDlK-kgOZ9ukVtXbcgIWXIt6HjepVH5Ct0zOzw%3D%3D%26ch%3DA6BRC557QFULCZX33tcfR9ZHtHUTwWHWuB0_E0FhFhk79xcuSsILYQ%3D%3D&data=04%7C01%7Clancasterc5%40michigan.gov%7C8d5249e70119419f6cd808da08d7ad71%7Cd5fb7087377742ad966a892ef47225d1%7C0%7C0%7C637832019665659371%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&sdata=lQT8IPkdKUSKDo4od%2FiI0U5z1xKcwgU%2Fh7rGcMuFLqM%3D&reserved=0>
We will conduct a major social media campaign throughout April and into the first week of May. It's easy: #FloydCooperDay
All his publishers have checked stock and their marketing departments will be in touch with you, as well.
BIG NEWS! We will have a display contest -- and 25 schools, libraries and booksellers will each win $250 of free books. More details about this in April.
EVEN BIGGER NEWS! A dozen of Floyd's author and illustrator friends are recording videos of themselves reading his books and we will post them online in late April -- and alert you ahead of time so you can choose one or more to watch in class on May 6 or that weekend during library or bookstore reading hours. One highlight of many will be Crystal Allen is reading Juneteenth for Mazie on the steps of the building in Galveston where the original proclamation was read in 1865!

Youth across Michigan are fortunate when they are able to access extraordinary opportunities for growth and learning during the summer months, thanks in large part to the skilled, resourceful adults who work so hard to build them.
