[Michlib-l] Clarke Historical Library Presents Carole Lindstrom, Author of We Are Water Protectors

On Tuesday, March 22, at 7:00 pm EDT, the Clarke Historical Library at Central Michigan University will host award-winning children’s author Carole Lindstrom. Lindstrom, a member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Ojibwe, will speak about her acclaimed 2020 book, We Are Water Protectors. She wrote the book, illustrated by Michaela Goade (member of the Tlingit and Haida Tribes), in response to the Dakota Access Pipeline protests at Standing Rock that started in 2016. The book “issues an urgent rallying cry to safeguarding the Earth’s water from harm and corruption.​” In recognition of their work, the book was awarded the 2021 Jane Addams Children’s Book Award in the Books for Younger Children category and the 2021 Caldecott Medal. This is the first book authored and illustrated by members of Tribal communities to win the Caldecott Medal.
