[Michlib-l] Looking for the title of a "Mystery" Book

Dear Mystery-solvers,
  
 I am trying to help a patron find the title of a book. It is referenced in 
Charles Martin's newest title "The Water Keeper". In Chapter 32 on page 221 
he mentions the Card Sound Bridge near Key Largo. Allegedly a 
broken-hearted writer drove his Mercedes off the bridge. The driver was 
lost at sea, but the burnt out car was erected as a rusty monument on the 
shore nearby.
  
 This passage rang a bell with our patron and she thinks she read a book 
about this incident, but can't remember title or author. She is intrigued 
that this incident was mentioned by Charles Martin in his book and would 
just love to reread this other book.
  
 Does this ring a bell with anybody? Any suggestions? Thank you so much for
