Geek Fest
Saturday, October 15th, 2022
11 AM to 3 PM
At the Kalamazoo County Expo Center 2900 Lake Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49048
Geek Fest is a free, all-ages celebration of geek culture in all its forms! Comics and art, table top games, technology, cosplay, and much, much more!
This year, guests include:
Gretchen McNeil: Author of the YA horror/suspense novels POSSESS, 3:59, RELIC, GET EVEN, GET DIRTY, and TEN (a YALSA Top Ten Quick Pick for Reluctant Young Adult Readers, a Romantic Times Top Pick, and a Booklist Top Ten Horror Fiction for Youth).
Gretchen's novels have been published internationally in over a dozen languages. Ten: Murder Island, the film adaptation of TEN starring China Anne McClain (Descendants 2, Black Lightning) premiered on Lifetime in 2017, and GET EVEN and GET DIRTY have been adapted as the series Get Even for BBC and Netflix. Season 1 premiered in 2020 and season 2 will stream on Netflix in the fall of 2022.
Paul Sizer: Freelance graphic designer and comic artist living and working in Kalamazoo Michigan with his wife and fellow comic artist Jane Irwin. Paul works with clients all over the world on design and illustration projects, including book cover designs, CD/album designs, websites, game graphics and logo/branding/identity systems. He also self-publishes his own graphic novels, including the all-ages LITTLE WHITE MOUSE series, the American Library Association award-winning graphic novel MOPED ARMY, and his latest, the multi-media music based B.P.M.
Sew Excited Cosplay: Often described as cheerfully energetic, Jessi, aka Sew Excited Cosplay, has been in the cosplay community for over 10 years. In that time she has worked with several crafting materials, from beautiful fabric gowns to foam armor construction. Winning multiple awards for her attention to detail and an artistic approach to design, Jessi enjoys combining form and function in her wearable art. She feels the best thing about cosplay is how it brings people together and loves sharing what she's learned with others on their crafting journey.
The Jedi Council of America: The Jedi Council of America is a Lucas Film recognized fan driven cosplay charity organization that focuses on Star Wars fan base interaction and community outreach. The JCoA has chapters in 25 states 7 other countries. Our goal is to bring joy to the fanbase and ignite the imagination of what is possible when people work together towards a common goal of helping others.
