[Michlib-l] Seed Saving Program at the Alpena Library

The Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library will be hosting a
Seed-Saving Panel on Monday, October 17th at 6:30 PM. This event will be
held via Zoom and in-person at the library.



Michigan State University Educator, Abbey Palmer, and Queen City Seed
Library's Mike Riesterer are back to share more seed-saving tips and
tricks. This time, they will demonstrate how to process seeds from beans
and squash, showcase some of their seed-saving tools, and answer questions!
This informal panel's discussion topic, how to save and store seeds for the
next planting season, will interest beginners and experts alike. Patron's
own stories of seed saving are welcome and encouraged! Join in person or

Abbey Palmer serves as a Community Food Systems Educator based in Alger
County and works with schools and farms throughout the Upper Peninsula. She
coordinates educational activities for people of all ages at MSU Upper
Peninsula Research and Extension Center (UPREC). Her areas of focus include
land-based learning for K-14 students and their teachers, season extension,
food policy councils, and small-scale seed system resilience. Abbey holds
an MFA from the Iowa Writers Workshop in fiction and a BA in Literature
from Northern Michigan University. She has worked in food systems since
2011 and spent several years engaged in diversified vegetable production
using off-grid farming methods.



Mike Riesterer is a volunteer who helped establish the Queen City Seed
Library at Peter White Public Library. He helps to maintain the Queen City
Seed Library and its Facebook page; @queencityseedlibrary. Mike works with
Peterwhite Public Library and volunteers to host annual seed swaps in the
spring.
