[Michlib-l] MeL Minute: Secondary PE eRsources in MeL

While most of the Academic Standards for PE<https://www.michigan.gov/mde/-/media/Project/Websites/mde/2019/02/22/K_12_PE_Standards_Aug_17_ADA_compliance918.pdf> are focused on actual physical activity, there are some moments when no-dress days happen and physical activity for students is not possible. Maybe it’s raining, snowing, or sleeting and that day’s activity must be indoors. Perhaps the gymnasium has been closed because of a local election taking place. Occasionally, individual students may have forgotten gym clothes or sustained an injury. Whatever the case, the Michigan eLibrary<https://mel.org/welcome> (MeL) has many eResources for regular and alternative PE assignments.

Current Events
Standard 4.2 in the high school PE Academic Standards asks students to explore sports as current events and consider moral and ethical conduct in specific, competitive situations. Dance
I have not-so-fond memories of holding the sweaty palms of my middle school classmates as we promenaded around the gym, learning about square dancing. Dance is still an important part of secondary education. In Standard 2.4 students are asked to identify examples of social and technical dance forms. Further, the Level 2 outcome of S2.4 pushes students to compare similarities and differences between these forms.
