Today we are unable to find any consolation following the tragedy that occurred at Michigan State University last night. There is no justification for an indiscriminate attack on a college campus or at any other venue. As we struggle with processing this incomprehensible act of violence, we know this is a moment to collectively work to prevent devastating events like this in the future.

We support the University's students, faculty, staff, and their families as we condemn this senseless violence. We are grateful to the heroic work of the first responders who helped save as many lives as possible. It is our shared responsibility to act now to see that our schools, colleges, libraries, and communities are safe from such acts.
