The Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library is looking for a
dynamic leader for its awesome staff and to guide the organization into its
next exciting chapter. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in
community collaborations, strategic planning, and millage campaigns. We are
seeking a leader who can captain our team toward growth and empowerment as
library professionals. The Library has an operational budget of just over
$1.4M that provides services to 28,000 Alpena County residents. This newly
renovated Class V library is located in downtown Alpena, mere blocks from
Lake Huron in Northeast Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. The Library offers
robust community programming in a wide variety of formats and is the home
of the Thunder Bay Research Collection and treasured local history
collections.
This is a full-time, exempt position.
Qualifications: Must meet and maintain the requirements set by the Library
of Michigan for a Class V library (Level 1 Certificate), MLIS from an
ALA-accredited institution, 4-5 years of management experience in a public
library setting, Michigan Librarian I certification, up-to-date with
current issues and trends in libraries, and familiarity with small-town
libraries. The candidate must possess excellent interpersonal written and
verbal communication skills, excellent attention to detail, and be able to
develop and manage the operating budget.
Salary: $70,000-$85,000 plus a generous benefits package including health
insurance, paid time off, and participation in the Michigan Municipal
Employee Retirement System.
About the library: Located in downtown Alpena, the Alpena County George N.
Fletcher Public Library was established in 1967 as a county library.
Dedicated to serving as a regional gathering place for learning and quality
cultural experiences, the Library also acts as a primary resource for
historical research, enrichment opportunities, and educational support. The
Library is committed to building a reading community while providing
quality humanities programming unique to this area of the state.
