Teaching Race in America: A Professional Development Conference
*Wednesday, August 9, 2023  |  Oakland University Campus*
Dear Education Leader,
Oakland University is hosting "Teaching Race in America: A Professional
Development Conference" on August 9. We are honored to have the Pulitzer
Prize-winning journalist, Professor Nikole Hannah-Jones as the keynote
speaker.
The conference is designed to provide K-12 and higher educators with the
resources and instructional methods needed to effectively teach about race
in English/Language Arts and Social Studies classes.
In addition to the conference sessions, several exciting additional
opportunities are available for you to participate in.

   - *Tuesday, August 8, 6 - 8 pm*: VIP Reception at Oakland University's
   historic Meadow Brook Hall. The event is complimentary, featuring hors
   d'oeuvres and adult beverages. Professor Nikole Hannah-Jones will speak at
   the reception.

   - *Wednesday, August 9, 8:30 - 9:30am*: "Leading During Challenging
   Times". A complimentary breakfast and panel session designed exclusively
   for education leaders. Featured panelists include:
      Dr. Jim Grossman—American Historical Association
      Dr. Lawrence Paska—National Council for Social Studies
      Mr. Neil Barclay—CEO, Charles Wright Museum of African American
   History
      Ms. Elana Rugh—CEO, Detroit Historical Society
      Dr. Wanda Cook-Robinson—superintendent, Oakland Intermediate Schools
      Dr. Lynda Wood—retired superintendent, Southfield Schools

If you have not already registered for the full conference, we would love
to have your participation for the entire day.  Thanks to generous
sponsors, there is a nominal fee of $20 and sessions begin immediately
following the breakfast.  More information about the conference sessions
