CSLP Summer Reading Champion Announcement

I’m so excited to be partnering with CSLP to promote summer reading! I come from a long line of book lovers (my mom was a librarian!). Summer nights, cuddled up with my mom or grandmothers and a book are some of my most precious memories. I can’t wait to encourage other kids to do the same– to dig into the pages of their first chapter book, get lost in a picture book or pick up their first earlier reader and let their imaginations take them away!
All Together Now is a beautiful testament to what I hope books can do for us all: connect and encourage acceptance of many different types of people.
I’m so happy that Read With Jenna Jr. and CSLP are partnering for the summer to encourage kids to check out a book and start reading! I’m honored to be this year’s Reading Champion and promise to encourage library visits and beach reading, all summer long!
As we read “All Together Now” this summer, I know we can help shape strong, empathetic young readers!!

Want your chance to be included in CSLP Summer Reading Champion and Read with Jenna social media? Optimal submissions are:

  *   Library video tours. Submissions will be edited but content will not be cut. Captions will be added to videos. Show your amazing personality and submit raw footage!

Summer Decoration Inspiration

I wanted to get the community involved in decorating the library for the summer, and get them excited to come in! I liked the idea shared at the summer symposium of the puzzle board, but wanted to expand on it to include more patrons. I eliminated the edge pieces in favor of organic edges so that the puzzle could grow as much as it was able to.

I advertised on Facebook and put blank puzzle pieces at the front desk and at a coffee shop where the locals gather. The head of our local arts council is a regular patron, so I had him send out an email to the arts council about the showcase. I also contacted the librarians at all the schools in the area, who smoothed the way to get me in contact with the art teachers at each school in our parish. I ended up distributing 800 puzzle pieces to the elementary school and 200 to the middle school, and the art teachers left them for me to pick up. I also got all of the kids at our “alternative school” to decorate one (I deliver books to them every week, so we have a great rapport).

I was really worried I wouldn’t get any puzzle pieces back, and my mural would be really small and sad. Instead, the opposite happened. I got over 750 puzzle pieces back, and when kids come in and look at the wall, they want to add to the wall, too! I have puzzle pieces out on our coloring sheet station and yesterday, the day of our first program, I got around 15 more to hang up.

I’m so excited about this program, and about how beautiful our meeting room looks! Thank you for organizing the summer symposium and giving me the idea!
