Speakers

Maura Deedy

Maura Deedy, she/hers, is the Library Advisory Specialist with the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, where she consults with library directors, trustees, municipal officials and friends on governance, operational and legal concerns. She supports library directors to be effective leaders and trustees to be successful advocates for their libraries. Prior to joining MBLC, she worked in public libraries in Massachusetts and Connecticut, as an Assistant Director and Head of Adult Services and Reference. Maura serves on the United for Libraries Board, active in the Advocacy, Public Policy and Intellectual Freedom Subcommittee.



Stephanie Chase

Stephanie Chase, she/hers, is the Executive Director of the Libraries of Eastern Oregon and Founding Principal of the Constructive Disruption consultancy. Previously, Stephanie was the Director of Libraries for Hillsboro (OR) and was the Director of Library Programs and Services for The Seattle Public Library. Stephanie is the founder of the Green Mountain (VT) Library Consortium, a statewide library consortium providing digital collections and partnership opportunities to 150 member libraries, a founding member and inaugural chair of the LibraryReads Steering Committee, and currently serves on the Public Library Association Board of Directors and the ALA Council.

Learn how to connect with your electeds (and their staffs) and consistently demonstrate the value of your library, whether you are a library Trustee/board member, Friends of the Library, affiliated with a library Foundation, or are a library staff member. Find out valuable tips, whether you are making your first contacts, or continuing longstanding relationships. The session will include a walk-through of the recently updated Advocacy Action Planner from ALA, as well as a list of United for Libraries and ALA resources to help guide your relationship building and advocacy efforts.
