The Troy Public Library<https://troypl.org/> is the hub of the vibrant, dynamic, and diverse City of Troy. The Library sees over 700,000 visitors per year and serves an educated and involved community.

Under the direction of the Head of Digital Services, the Intern performs a variety of professional and public service tasks in order to support the library's digital services and technology initiatives. This position will allow the student to gain practical library knowledge and skills, while working alongside professional librarians and staff.

DUTIES

  *   Provide reference and technology assistance to patrons.
  *   Assist patrons with library technology.
  *   Assist technology room patrons, troubleshoot computer hardware and software issues.
  *   Monitor patrons' use of the library public computers and enforce computer use policy.
  *   Apply a full working knowledge of all forms of technology, especially laptops, smartphones, tablets, and e-readers.
  *   Assist with planning and implementation of technology-focused programs for adults.
  *   Perform related duties and general library reference services work as required.
REQUIREMENTS

  *   Enrollment in a Master degree program in Library and/or Information Science with at least 12 credits completed or equivalent experience.
  *   An interest in new and emerging technology trends in libraries.
  *   Interest in and dedication to providing excellent library service to a widely diverse community of patrons.
  *   Proficiency with electronic databases, Microsoft Office applications, social network sites and the Internet as well as electronic devices such as e-readers and tablets.
  *   Proficiency using multiple devices and platforms, including iOS, Android, MacOS, and Windows.
  *   Ability to interact courteously and effectively with the public, library staff, library volunteers, and other City departments.
  *   Punctuality and dependability, and attention to detail.
  *   Ability to exercise initiative and sound independent judgment.
  *   Discretion and consideration for patron privacy.
  *   Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  *   Ability to adapt and respond to multiple priorities, interruptions and demands, and to resolve sensitive situations in a positive manner.
  *   As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen (including marijuana).
PREFERENCES

  *   Coursework related to public library services.
  *   Advanced research skills.
  *   Experience with library electronic resources, e.g. OverDrive, Hoopla, and other relevant software.
  *   Experience in technology instruction.
  *   Public library experience, either as an advanced user or library employee at any level.
HOURS

  *   Part-time; internship term length of up to 2 years or until the end of graduation month, whichever comes first.
  *   Average of twenty (20) hours per week. Schedule will be varied to include day, evening, and weekend (Saturday and Sunday) shifts.
  *   This position offers 40 hours of paid time off, per calendar year.
