The Romulus Public Library has an opening for a Head of Adult Services and Outreach. This is a full-time non-exempt position with benefits and paid time off for vacation, sick, and personal business. Applications submitted by May 19 will be given priority.

Head of Adult Services and Outreach 

Full-time Non-Exempt 

Reports to Director 




Essential Duties: 

· Responsible for conveying and carrying out of the Library’s Mission, planning objectives and Core Values 

· Assists with personnel interviewing and selection 

· Acts as supervisor-in-charge as needed when Director and other department heads are out of the office 



Adult Services and Outreach Duties: 

· Plans, prepares, promotes, and presents programming for adults including computer instruction, book clubs, and other adult programs 

· Selects, develops, and maintains adult collections 

· Manages adult materials budget, ensuring operational and budget efficiency 

· Supervises, trains, and directs work of Library Pages 

· Manages Adult Literacy Program 

· Manages technology devices including mobile hotspots, Kindles, Launchpads, Chromebooks, and laptops for public use 

· Evaluates and manages electronic resources 

· Manages Food Pantry and Read Boxes 

· Evaluates, assesses, and implements new adult service objectives and programs 

· Provides outreach to the community and seeks partnership opportunities with community organizations 

· Assists Director in researching information, conducting studies, and running reports relating to Library effectiveness, user needs and new services 

· Writes and initiates grant proposals seeking funding designed to aid, enhance or create library service programs or assets 

· Provides reference assistant and reader’s advisory to library patrons 

· Attends TLN Adult Services Committee meetings, E-Content Committee meetings, and Outreach Committee meetings 



Other Duties: 

· Manages library website and Google products 

· Processes and approves meeting room applications 

· Oversees preparation of monthly Calendar of Events 

· Maintains public literature racks and community information boards 

· Attends Leadership Team meetings, staff meetings, professional meetings and continuing education workshops 

· Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: 

· Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited library school 

· Eligible for Michigan Public Library Certification 

· Experience in a public services position in a public library; supervisory experience preferred 

· Skill in planning and presenting library programs 

· Skill in preparing program flyers and other promotional materials 

· Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relations with others 

· Computer literacy including use of social media, databases, proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word and Google Docs required; experience with MS Publisher, library software and WordPress preferred 

· Ability to provide superior customer service to library users of all ages 

· Excellent proven organizational skills 

· Ability to operate standard office equipment 

· Ability to complete work in a timely manner 

· Ability to manage budgets effectively 

· Ability to work cooperatively with library staff and volunteers in a team environment 

· Ability to produce neat, accurate work within an established time frame 

· Excellent written and oral communication skills 

· Ability to lift and push up to 25 pounds 



Hours : 40 hours/week. Days, evenings, and some weekend shifts. 

Salary : $56,370/year
