Hiring Range: $57,700 - $72,100

Position Summary 




Under the direction of the IT Manager, the Front-end Developer is responsible for the implementation and continuous improvement of the User Interface for public and staff-facing applications. The Front-end Developer will interact directly with IT design and development staff, as well as end users. This position will participate fully in the design, development, testing, and maintenance of in-house applications, including, but not limited to, web applications and services, content management systems, and automation processes. The Front-end Developer also assumes responsibility for maintaining up-to-date documentation in the source code, as well as within external documentation structures. 




Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following; other duties as assigned: 

    * Designs, develops, tests, and implements User Interfaces according to project specifications. 
    * Develops and continuously improves User Experience providing consistent, appealing, highly usable access to library services for staff and public users. 
    * Assists other IT staff members with development projects and coordinates work with Project Leaders. 
    * Produces documentation, both in-code and in IT document repositories, for both technical and non-technical customers. 
    * Works with users and teams to produce specifications and plans for both small and large development projects. 
    * Works within both the IT departmental guidelines and project management processes, to complete projects on a timely basis and provide realistic development timelines. 
    * Researches new technologies and structures to maintain and update knowledge, skills and abilities. 
    * Monitors completed projects and associated documentation, plans upgrades, and schedules implementations as needed. 
    * Consults with IT staff members on interface design and serves as a departmental programming resource. 



Minimum Qualifications include: 

    * Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or combination of education and experience. 
    * Experience with Web Service design and development. 
    * Extensive experience with CSS and Javascript. 
    * Extensive experience with LAMP stack development. 
    * Experience with Mobile & Responsive UI/UX Development. 
    * Extensive experience with open-source tools and operating systems, particularly Linux-based systems. 
    * Experience with Git and Github. 
    * Experience with package management tools, e.g., Composer/npm/Yarn. 
    * Proven ability to work within a technical team on large, multi-faceted projects. 
    * Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 



Preferred Qualifications include: 

    * Experience working effectively with a diverse community. 
    * Familiarity with Library functions. 
    * Experience with Drupal. 
    * Experience with usability assessment. 
    * Experience with SCSS. 
    * Experience developing PHP libraries or other code repositories.
