[A white letter on a blue green and red background Description automatically generated]Family dinner tables and restaurants all over Michigan will be blessed with an abundance of fresh salmon, walleye and lake whitefish this fall. How lucky we are to live in a state where this season grants some fantastic fishing on the Great Lakes and its tributaries. For our benefit, the Pure Michigan<https://www.michigan.org/fishing-trips-and-charters?msclkid=e2a77c5a3f2e12dd4e7c189096218067&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=MI%20Michigan%20Activities%20Brand&utm_term=michigan%20fishing&utm_content=Michigan%20Fishing> and Michigan DNR<https://www.michigan.gov/dnr/things-to-do/fishing> websites provide us with information on licensing, regulations, free fish weekends, and even fishing locations throughout the state. To dig a little deeper, the Michigan eLibrary<https://mel.org/welcome> (MeL) offers eResources that highlight the fish ecology in freshwater environments, history of fishing on the Great Lakes, fly tying, fresh fish recipes, local fishing haunts, and so much more.
Fly Tying
If you’re interested in learning how to slide a slinky or develop running-line rigs to obtain optimal depth penetration when presenting a fly, then you’ll want to explore the timeless publication from the eBook Public Library Collection<https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?database=ebsco-e700xna>, Great Lakes Steelhead, Salmon, and Trout: Essential Techniques for Fly Fishing the Tributaries<https://auth.mel.org/newera/check-direct?url=https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?url=https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=e700xna&AN=414281&site=ehost-live&scope=site&ebv=EB&ppid=pp_Cover>. This color-packed title offers dozens of step-by-step fly-tying illustrations; essential flies, food and techniques when adjusting to water conditions; a variety of tackle; and even a boat guide for river systems surrounding the Great Lakes.

History
“Leland on the Lakes” is an engaging article from Michigan History Magazine<https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?database=mihistory> that chronicles the evolution of sturgeon, lake trout, and whitefish fishing in Historic Fishtown (Leland). In “Swimming Against Fate: The Discovery and Demise of the Michigan Grayling,” also in this publication, readers can learn about the height of fishing for grayling in Northern Michigan to its eventual end, when the last known grayling was spotted in the Upper Peninsula’s Otto River in 1920.

Ecology
Environment Complete<https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?database=ebsco-eih> offers publications such as Conservation Ecology and Aquatic Ecosystem Health & Management. Here, you will find detailed articles on habitat quality, coastal wetlands, and impacts of climate change.
Local Fishing
Michigan Blue, a publication in MasterFILE Complete<https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?database=ebsco-f6h>, has dozens of articles that focus on fishing throughout Michigan. “Lake Michigan Fishing<https://auth.mel.org/newera/check-direct?url=https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?url=https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=f6h&AN=162769781&site=ehost-live&scope=site>,” “Living a Boyhood Dream<https://auth.mel.org/newera/check-direct?url=https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?url=https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=f6h&AN=156631117&site=ehost-live&scope=site>,” “A Personal Remembrance<https://auth.mel.org/newera/check-direct?url=https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?url=https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=f6h&AN=157981154&site=ehost-live&scope=site>,” and “Outdoor Adventures<https://auth.mel.org/newera/check-direct?url=https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?url=https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=f6h&AN=157981155&site=ehost-live&scope=site>” serve up stories about fishing locations like Houghton Lake, Ludington Harbor, Mullet Lake, the AuSable’s Mason Tract, and the Platte River.

Recipes
With colorful photos and easy-to-follow recipes such as Salt Dome Walleye Lettuce Wraps, Fish: Recipes and Techniques for Freshwater Fish<https://auth.mel.org/newera/check-direct?url=https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?url=https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=e700xna&AN=2155398&site=ehost-live&scope=site&ebv=EB&ppid=pp_Cover_1> from the eBook Public Library Collection is a must read to round out your fall fishing adventures.
