The first presentation of the Cairns & Beacons lecture and discussion
series will be this Thursday, September 14th at 7pm. Philosopher and
educator Elizabeth Minnich will be speaking on her ideas presented in the
book *The Banality of Evil. * Why is thinking important? Which ways of
thinking develop independence, creativity, and individual responsibility?
Are these connected to ‘good’ acts? Is there a relation between not
thinking and irresponsibility, “just following orders,” not wandering from
status quo, and “keeping my head down”? Are there connections between these
‘bad,’ even ‘evil’ acts?
There will be a discussion of these ideas on the following Thursday,
September 21st at 7pm. You and your patrons are welcome to join us for the
presentation and participate in the discussion.
