[Michlib-l] Great Program-West Michigan Avid Typewriters

Good morning, 



Yesterday the Fruitport District Library played host to the West Michigan Avid Typewriters. They brought five typewriters for the kids to practice on. We had such a huge turnout that they brought out a sixth typewriter.



The kids loved learning this "new" technology and asked such fun questions that blew their minds like "where's the backspace button?"



We had one young man type up an entire short story about friends raccoon and turtle that stole a Lamborghini. 



The two workers were great with the kids and pleasant to deal with. 



Because of the high turnout and only six typewriters our Friends provided arts and crafts before and after the kids were done on the typewriters. 


Prices:



$50 to set up. 

Five machines for two hours is $100 (they did not charge us for having to use the sixth typewriter)

They also charge $0.67 per mile for events outside of Grand Rapids

But they include a 50% discount on non-profits and libraries (not including mileage)



So for two hours we paid them just over $100. 



It was a great program and the kids loved it.
