[Michlib-l] seed library questions

We keep our seed library available all year. We have several hydroponic growing systems that often spark discussions about solutions to year-round gardening in this climate. We've also had programs on topics like winter sowing. Herbs especially are great to keep access open all year.
It also helps to keep our seed stock fresh. Donations tend to pick up in fall and that helps carry us through the winter but I do also do some supplemental purchasing.

I've attached a link to a list of seed viabilities from the company that I buy my seeds from.

Ever wondered how long you can save your seeds and have them still be viable? We've created this chart to help you determine the longevity of your seeds. Proper seed storage conditions...

I got a good crop of peas this year from pea seeds that were four years old. I do, however, plant sees closer together as they age.

Those are some great questions!
We too are starting a seed catalog using the old card catalog.
I am also wondering about the age of seeds; they do have a best used by date.
Is it worth keeping seeds older than 1 or 2 years?

Hello,
For those libraries that have a Seed Library. How long do you keep the seed library out for patrons? We do have some “cold crop” seeds for Autumn planting. Also, how do you handle this years seeds that didn’t go out> Do you recirculate them in the next year?
Thank you!
