[Michlib-l] Accessibility Checker in Canva

Hey TLN and Michlib-L friends,

I learned about this recently. You can use it to view your design's color
contrast and accessibility with your text (type). Many individuals with
vision impairments need clear contrast between colors and especially the
type you are using when compared to the colors. Canva also presents whether
there are issues with alternative text for each of the elements in your
design, which you can also add to your Canva files.

To find it in your design file, go to
*File > Settings > Check Design Accessibility*

I did some research and Meta will automatically attach alternative text to
your images, but the problem with that is that it may not be accurate or
complete because of the limitations of AI. They haven't added the option to
include alternative text when you go to create events on your page, but
when you do regular posts, there is an option to edit within the post and
add alternative text. The recommendation is to describe the image and what
the important information is that is included in the image for screen
readers unless you're listing that in the description or caption. I'm not a
lawyer so I don't know the legalese for this.

Feel welcome to share this fact with people in your consortiums who may not
be on Michlib-L or who are not in my consortium, TLN.

Katie
