Navigating Material Challenges for Library Trustees
Thursday, February 15, 2024
6:00 - 7:15 PM

MLA is working alongside the Michigan Cooperative Director's Association to host a virtual trustee training event on Thursday, February 15 from 6:00 - 7:15 PM. This event is free to attend!

As libraries in Michigan and around the country grapple with an unprecedented number of book bans and challenges, this event will help orient library trustees to their role and responsibilities when it comes to material challenges. Attendees will learn about the importance of established library policy, the roles and responsibilities of trustees, and more when faced with challenges to intellectual freedom.

Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions of the presenters at the end of the session.

Presenters

  * Kate Pohjola Andrade, Director of the Woodlands Library Cooperative
  * Clare Membiela, Library Law Consultant at the Library of Michigan
  * Eric Palmer, Director of the Mideastern Michigan Library Cooperative

MLA Connect Advocacy Hours are an opportunity for the library community to learn more about MLA's advocacy and legislative priorities including funding, elections, property taxes, literacy, internet access, privacy, intellectual freedom, and more. Each month, we will address a new topic and share any pending legislation introduced in the House or Senate that could impact the Michigan library community. Monthly sessions will take place generally on the third Thursday of the month at 10:00 AM.

This advocacy hour is free to attend to anyone interested in joining the conversation! A maximum of 500 attendees can join the live event. Registered attendees will receive information and a link to access the meetings on the Zoom platform.
