[A white letter on a blue green and red background Description automatically generated]National Library Lovers Month is the perfect time to share some of the reasons to love Michigan's special online library, the Michigan eLibrary<https://mel.org/welcome> (MeL).
5. Online access to popular publications such as HGTV Magazine<https://auth.mel.org/newera/check-direct?url=https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?url=https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=f6h&jid=ETSZ&site=ehost-live>, Food Network Magazine<https://auth.mel.org/newera/check-direct?url=https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?url=https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=f6h&jid=8XPP&site=ehost-live>, People<https://auth.mel.org/newera/check-direct?url=https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?url=https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=f6h&jid=PEO&site=ehost-live>, and Consumer Reports<http://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?database=consumerreports> in MasterFILE Complete<https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?database=ebsco-f6h> saves so much money. Instead of purchasing individual issues of each magazine or even a subscription, each one can be read free via MeL. Pop culture information, the latest recipes, and reviews of potential purchases are all important content that is available thanks to the MeL eResources.
4. As a former school librarian, I can't help but appreciate the learning eResources available to all Michigan students. Whether they are at home, school, or their local public library, the youngest Michiganders can use learning games and activities in Britannica Fundamentals<http://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?database=eblz> and World Book Early Learning<https://worldbookonline.com/ewol/home?subacct=O6106>. School age children can use World Book Kids<https://www.worldbookonline.com/kids/home?subacct=O6106>, PebbleGo<http://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?database=pebblego>, and the leveled articles in Britannica School<http://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?database=eb> to complete their assignments, do research, and learn interesting facts. It is amazing for students to have such a wide variety of content including images, videos, articles, and activities right at their fingertips.
3. The articles and eBooks MeL eResources can turn anyone into a DIY master! I learned to change the cabin air filter in my car from Auto Repair Source<https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?database=autorespo>. In addition, there are patterns and tutorials in Hobbies & Crafts Source<https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?database=ebscoprofile-hcrc> and projects in Home Improvement Source<https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?database=ebscoprofile-hirc> that can save me both time and money by doing some things myself--I even tackled a plumbing project this year with help from MeL. These DIY MeL eResources are a great jumping off point for learning a new skill.
2. With over 200,000 eBooks for all ages, the EBSCO eBook Collections<https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?database=ebscoprofile-ebooks> have something for everyone. When I needed gluten-free recipes, I was able to locate cookbooks from MeL. The eResources also contain dozens of library programming books so library staff can save time and money while doing professional learning.
1. NoveList Plus<https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?database=ebscoprofile-novplus> and NoveList K-8<https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?database=ebscoprofile-novpk8> plus are great for libraries to share read-alikes and create lists for displays. As an avid reader, I can't say enough about how easy it is to discover my next read using these eResources. The curated lists are excellent, and I learn something new about books and reading every time I open NoveList Plus. A great way to get started is to join the NoveList Plus 2024 Reading Challenge<https://www.ebsco.com/blogs/novelist/2024-novelist-reading-challenge>--there are lists of suggested books within the eResource for every month of 2024.
The most wonderful aspect of the MeL eResources is that everyone in Michigan can access all the content for free 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 (or 366 in Leap Year!) days per year!
If you have any MeL eResources questions or issues, contact melerhelp at mcls.org<mailto:melerhelp at mcls.org> for help.
