Hello Fellow Seed Librarians!

In case you haven't heard, the Seed Library Network is now LIVE with its
first ever Seed Library Census.  This census is being conducted worldwide
in an effort to update an interactive Seed Library map.  More info in the
e-mail below.  If you have an open seed library in your library please fill
out the census at the following link:

Please do so only if your seed library is already functioning in your
library.  Libraries that are contemplating opening one in the Spring or are
still contemplating are asked to NOT fill out the form at this time.

Little known fact that the State of Michigan is one of the top states in
the country for seed libraries.  Let's update our info to keep that going!

Greetings and Happy New Year!

The Seed Library Network is conducting a global census of seed libraries
this year. Below are details.

What is the Global Seed Library Census? (Links are below)

It is a short questionnaire about the status of your seed library. There is
an optional section about the organization of your seed library and your
needs.

Who is organizing the Global Seed Library Census?

The Seed Library Network (SLN) is a 100% volunteer-run nonprofit that
provides free, online resources on how to start and maintain a seed library
and features special projects that some seed libraries offer.

Why a census?

The purpose of the census is to update the seed library directory and
generate a global seed library digital map. This updated information will
serve communities, seed library staff, and volunteers and help identify
resources and support for community seed libraries.

The Global Seed Library Map will replace the current Seed Library List. We
ask you to please complete the census even if you are listed in the Seed
Library List. This will get your seed library on the map!

What is the seed library directory?

Since starting the Seed Library List in 2011, we've had more than 2,600
entries! We want to update the list and the information will be used to:

   - populate a Seed Library Network Map (coming soon)
   - help others near you or in similar bioregions connect
   - assess the needs of seed libraries to help with the SLN programming
   and resource offerings
   - identify trends in the seed library community and local seed-saving
   efforts, such as an increase in locally grown seeds or types of programs
   offered

When is it being done?

The census will be active from January 1 through March 30, 2024. (Note: If
your seed library is not open yet, you can still get on the map after
March.)

How does it work?

This census has two parts:

Part 1 gets your seed library on the map.

Part 2 will help us identify the needs of and resources in the seed library
community.

You can edit your responses later if you want to go back.

If your library is closed or you were planning and decided not to, do not
complete this form. Please only fill this in if your library is open.

Please share this survey with your other branches or other seed libraries
you are connected with to ensure they are included on the map. The census

Be prepared to upload a photo showing your seed library. NOTE: Only
Gmail-based accounts can upload. It would be more interesting to have a
picture of the seed library and not the building it is housed in. These
will be public and linked to your entry.

When will the map be updated?

We plan on updating the map a few times a month during January-March. The
information needs to be transferred over and will not automatically show on
the map.
