Resources
2024 Kids Count Data Book
The 35th edition of the Annie E. Casey Foundation's KIDS COUNT(r) Data Book <https://www.aecf.org/resources/2024-kids-count-data-book> examines the unprecedented declines in student math and reading proficiency brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic's effect on education<https://www.aecf.org/blog/pandemic-learning-loss-and-absence-threaten-economy-and-young-peoples-futures>. The latest data from the National Assessment of Educational Progress reveals that between 2019 and 2022, fourth-grade reading and eighth-grade math scores plummeted, representing decades of lost progress. This alarming trend underscores the urgent need for action to address the growing academic disparities among U.S. students.

BUILDING A HOME LIBRARY
An up-to-date list of recommended new and classic books for every home by age group, as compiled by the Ingram Content Group and the Children's Book Council. A brand-new 2024 Building a Home Library book list -organized by age groups from 0 to 14- is now available<https://www.cbcbooks.org/readers/reader-resources/building-a-home-library/>.

Resources that Address Childhood Trauma
According to the National Institute for Children's Health Quality<https://americanlibraryassociation.informz.net/z/cjUucD9taT0xMTU3MTYzMCZwPTEmdT0xMTE5NzY3NzM1JmxpPTEwOTY4Mjg1Mg/index.html>, in the US, 34.8 million children -- nearly half of American children -- are exposed to adverse childhood experiences that can severely harm their future health and well-being. That's a sobering statistic and a reminder that negative threats to our youth can touch every community.
ALSC's Early Childhood Programs & Services committee created the Tool Kit on Trauma<https://www.ala.org/sites/default/files/2024-04/Early%20Childhood%20Trauma%20Toolkit_rev020624.pdf?_zs=Fu5vg1&_zl=fr8g9> to help inform librarians and library workers serving youth about various traumas experienced by young children to identify their impact on communities and to support families, caregivers, and educators working with young children who may have experienced trauma.
The tool kit, which provides resources that address trauma and youth, such as booklists, podcasts, websites, and more, can help equip library staff in helping children and families in need.

NNLM MI Mental Health Training Kit
The Network of the National Library of Medicine, Region 6 Advisory Board has just finished The Michigan Mental Health Training Kit<https://www.nnlm.gov/guides/michigan-mental-health-training-kit>! It is a professional development resource for library workers covering video training, case studies, and a list of Michigan mental health organizations.
