Hi Marla, et. Al.,
LM is working with Western Michigan University and a small cohort of librarians on a news & media Literacy grant from IMLS called Wonder Media. We are developing programming for just this age group and are in the process of testing it in the field now. Please stay tuned in the coming months for details on how to access the programs from me... We're excited to launch!

This program is supported in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
Thank you,
Cathy Lancaster

Hi Library Land! I was at a meeting at our local Child Advocacy Center yesterday, and a discussion came up about the uptick of children and teens being propositioned by strangers on social media, particularly Snapchat and TikTok. Many mentioned that there is a strong internet safety message being taught to students in lower elementary, but that drops off completely toward middle school and high school. To that end, has anyone partnered with schools and/or local PTOs to provide workshops about internet safety for older students? What programs or resources did you use? I think this is an incredibly important issue and I would love to be able to provide education on keeping your children (and probably the adults, too!) safe while using these apps. Thanks for any input! I will compile responses for anyone interested.
