[Michlib-l] Muskegon County Welcomes World Renown Author and Artist

MUSKEGON, MI - Yuyi Morales, celebrated children's book author and illustrator, will be speaking at the Muskegon Museum of Art as part of Muskegon County's participation in 2024 Big Read Lakeshore. Yuyi's book, Dreamers, was chosen as the Little Read title in this annual West Michigan community read, and she will join us to tell her own story.

Her book, Dreamers, tells her story of immigrating from Xalapa, Mexico to the United States with her infant son, leaving behind everything she owned. Speaking no English, she found hope at a local library- and went on to a successful career writing and illustrating award-winning children's books. Morales has written many picture books and nonfiction titles for children, including the New York Times bestselling Dreamers. Audiences of all ages will connect with her universal tale of family, love, loss, and growth.

Join us as we welcome Yuyi Morales for an evening of inspiration, reflection, and celebration of storytelling.

4:00 pm: Book signing at Hackley Public Library. (No registration required)
5:30 pm: Happy Hour in the Gallery, hosted by Latinos Working for the Future, featuring a variety of Latino savory dishes, drinks, and community. (Registration required)
6:30 pm: Author Talk with Yuyi Morales follows an opening act featuring Ballet Folklorico Dancer, Alizee Lopez. (Registration required)
8:00 pm: Book Sale & Signing
