Keynote: You Belong in Libraries with Mychal Threets -- Libraries are for everyone. There's something for everyone at all libraries. We all have a library story to tell, we all have a library story that deserves to be told. Amongst negativity, libraries shine bright with positivity. Your library voice is bellowing and that's okay! Mychal's program aims to remind you of your book joy, of your library joy. Be reinvigorated by the power of libraries, they are for everyone. And while he's not a mental health expert, he seeks to remind you that no one is alone in their mental health struggles.
Also on the Symposium agenda is Summer Marketing, Creative Programming, Sustainability, and more!

--Translatable into Spanish
--Culturally sensitive and thoughtful
--Avoid puns and wordplay
--Catchy, memorable, concise

Recruitment for a Survey on Social Services in Public Libraries
Are you a public librarian with responsibilities in administration, adult services, or youth services? You are invited to participate in an online survey aimed at U.S. public librarians. The purpose of the survey is to examine the disposition of public librarians on changes to their professional scope of practice in the face of the expanding trend of placing social workers in public libraries to support community social services information needs, perform outreach, and engage in other activities that have previously fallen to public librarians as part of their job.
The research is being conducted by Dr. Melissa Gross and Dr. Don Latham from Florida State University.
The survey will take approximately 20 to 30 minutes to complete and can be accessed using this link: fsu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_5onsSsZahhI3zcG<https://fsu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_5onsSsZahhI3zcG>
The survey is voluntary. You have the right to not participate in this study. By beginning the survey, you are consenting to participation. You may stop participating at any point simply by not completing the survey. The survey does not collect identifying information, so survey respondents are anonymous. The survey data will be handled in compliance with standard ethical principles.
The study is funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and has been approved by the Florida State University Institutional Review Board. The data will be used to write research papers and make conference presentations. Survey data will be stored in the FSU DigiNole Research Repository after the project ends.
The survey will close in February 2025. If you have any questions about this study, now or in the future, please contact:

The escalating adolescent mental health crisis has been met with a new array of options for direct youth access to mental health care online via apps, virtual visits with health professionals, and other digital therapies. What do youth think about these resources and how do they engage with them? How can youth, parents, and caregivers identify apps that are effective and appropriate? An expert panel of psychologists, researchers, and behavioral health experts will share the current landscape of online mental health care for youth. Explore how these resources are being accessed by diverse youth from both privileged and underserved communities, how they reflect traditional models, what new possibilities are emerging, and the benefits and potential risks for youth seeking support online.
Grant Supports School Gaming Days
The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) in California was the recipient of the 2024 Game On! Grant<https://www.ala.org/news/2024/08/gamerts-2024-game-grant-awarded-los-angeles-unified-school-district-california>. Administered by ALA's Games & Gaming Round Table (GameRT), the Game On! grant program provides libraries with funds to develop gaming programs or collections for their community.
According to their grant proposal, LAUSD plans to provide exciting gaming days throughout the school year in collaboration with their teaching departments at El Sereno Middle School. Each event will be sponsored by a different department with a game that ties to their content area and will take place over the course of a week.
LeeAnn McNabb, chair of the 2024 Game On! Grant Jury said, "The Game On! Grant committee was very excited to be able to award our first $1,000 level grant this year! We chose the Los Angeles Unified School District's grant proposal for El Sereno Middle School because of its unique use of games to teach core curriculum in collaboration with their school librarian. We hope the school library and the teaching departments are successful with their programs!"

"The thing I remember best about successful people I've met all through the years is their obvious delight in what they're doing ... and it seems to have very little to do with worldly success. They just love what they're doing, and they love it in front of others." ~ Fred Rogers
