Why learning is part of work culture and staff engagement<https://www.webjunction.org/news/webjunction/learning-work-culture-staff-engagement.html>
At the risk of stating the obvious, training and continuing education is critical to ensuring staff are prepared for the work they are expected to do, and essential for staff to stay engaged in the organization and their role in it. As the rate of change continues to accelerate, it is sometimes difficult to decide what to prioritize for training and development—much less find the time to schedule and conduct it. But learning isn’t just another task to complete, it’s a fundamental part of building an engaged, resilient workforce. Find the time, and start somewhere, even if it’s small.
Serving Communities: Inclusion-centered leadership practices that engage the community in actionable science<https://www.webjunction.org/news/webjunction/cornerstones-of-science.html>
The Serving Communities Framework and self-paced curriculum was co-developed by Cornerstones of Science, representatives from over 20 public, county, and state libraries, as well as over 30 team members and advisors from academic institutions and applied research fields and practicing experts in library information and informal science. It is premised on the idea that, if library directors and managements have inclusion-centered leadership skills, attitudes, and practices, they are better able to partner with underserved communities around actionable science and provide the services needed to support the community’s ability to respond and build resilience.
Resources for trustees and boards<https://www.webjunction.org/news/webjunction/resources-for-trustees-and-boards.html>
Serving on a library board is a terrific way to contribute to the library and the community. The role also comes with significant responsibilities, and many board members, also called trustees, will benefit from training. This compilation of related resources includes materials and handbooks from state libraries, webinars and articles from WebJunction, and tips from organizations, such as United for Libraries.
Advancing IDEAs: Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, 12 November 2024<https://hangingtogether.org/advancing-ideas-inclusion-diversity-equity-accessibility-12-november-2024/>
This is the latest Hanging Together blog post, part of a regular series<https://hangingtogether.org/tag/IDEA/> on issues of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility, compiled by a team of OCLC contributors.

Don't manage change—embrace it
Thursday, January 16, 2025 ◆ 3:00 pm Eastern / 12:00 pm Pacific ◆ 60 minutes
Registration: https://www.webjunction.org/events/webjunction/dont-manage-change-embrace-it.html
Trying to make changes at your library can feel overwhelming. Where do you start? How do you get people on board? What do you do when you encounter resistance? Change management plans can help, but too often they frame the change as a problem to manage rather than an opportunity to reach for a shared vision. In this webinar, you’ll learn strategies for effective, positive change-making and examine how shifting your mindset to center growth and strengths can help you positively reframe change. You’ll also explore approaches to leadership, collaboration, and power-sharing that meaningfully engage impacted groups and plan for and address change anxiety and resistance.
Turn strategy into action with Theory of Change
Wednesday, February 26, 2025 ◆ 3:00 pm Eastern / 12:00 pm Pacific ◆ 60 minutes
Registration: https://www.webjunction.org/events/webjunction/turn-strategy-into-action.html
You're getting ready to implement a change at your library, from a new strategic plan to a major project. How do you get your staff, partners, or community to understand and align with this new direction? Theory of Change is a powerful tool to help you define a shared vision that everyone can strive for together, while allowing flexibility and autonomy in how they get there. In this webinar, you’ll learn how one library is using Theory of Change to drive strategic alignment while reducing bureaucracy. You will learn how to identify the core concepts of Theory of Change and how they relate to change in libraries and apply the principles to a strategic change in your library.
This program is supported in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
