I think asking how we can help with this growing trend is a great first step. Promoting reading and offering great resources is what we do best. Individual libraries are helping in different ways in their local communities but how can we collectively help? 

The Library of Congress has awards for nonprofits that make major contributions to increasing literacy, [ https://www.loc.gov/programs/library-of-congress-literacy-awards/winners-and-honorees/ | https://www.loc.gov/programs/library-of-congress-literacy-awards/winners-and-honorees/ ] . There may be some ideas that help us explore how we, in the TLN community, can make a difference? It is worth exploring.
