[Michlib-l] Good fax machine?

I received a few responses to my question regarding fax machines. Sounds like the best idea is to stop using a fax machine, and start using a copier with faxing capabilities. Good thing I'm already looking at updating our copier! Responses below, and attached.

We use Humblefax, which is an internet based service. We just scan the documents and send them that way. No worries about things catching. We pay $10 a month for the service and haven't had any issues. We've gone with the internet faxing through our copier. After a fair amount of research, I'm convinced that this format is as safe and private as regular faxing, and looks the same on both ends of the transaction. This has worked very well for us and the image that arrives at the receiving end of the fax is of far better quality than phone faxes. Getting it up and running involved having something installed on our copier, but it was quick and cheap to get this done.

We went to faxing through our copier and it works great most of the time. Occasionally, the fax will pause and we will either delete it and start over or it will take off. Our patrons have to wait. Our director said it is more because faxing technology is becoming more outdated and doesn’t have the supports like it used to. We have saved some space by eliminating our fax machine and we can still make copies for patrons once the fax process begins.

I'm considering replacing our fax machine, and could use some suggestions. The biggest problem with our current one is that it has a tendency to catch and try to feed multiple pages at once if there are more than just a few pages, which is a real pain to deal with. If you've got a fax machine that has worked well for you, I would appreciate the details! Thank you!
