Welcome to the Continuing Education Round-Up! The Library of Michigan is excited to offer a monthly, curated list of continuing education (CE) opportunities from LM, around Michigan, and beyond. In the spirit of sharing information and supporting all Michigan library workers with quality CE opportunities, the LM CE Round-Up will feature professional development resources inside, adjacent to, and outside of the library world. We know we could never feature all the amazing content and opportunities available to support staff development and organizational learning. But that's no reason not to try to get the word out! If you know of a great training, event, or resource, please feel free to contact me directly. I'd love to hear from you! Let's keep learning together!

Updated - LiFT Collection Development Series <https://learn.webjunction.org/course/index.php?categoryid=130&_gl=1*15h74zy*_gcl_au*ODk5NzkxODAzLjE3NDk2NzExNTEuMTgxMjc1ODc3Ni4xNzUwODYwNzQzLjE3NTA4NjA3ODk.>
The LiFT courses are intended to address the training needs of predominantly non-degreed library staff who are new to their current position, or new to working in libraries. They were created by WebJunction and the Idaho Commission for Libraries (ICfL) to replace and update the Alternative Basic Library Education (ABLE) courses created and maintained by ICFL for over 25 years. These courses are designed to introduce the learner to various aspects of the practice, values, and mission of library work, with special focus on small and medium sized public libraries. These courses do not, and cannot replace specific, detailed task and workflow training on the particular systems, policies, and procedures of individual libraries.
Balancing the Books: Addressing Economic Insecurity Among Library Workers<https://www.librarieslearn.org/calendar/balancing-the-books-addressing-economic-insecurity-among-library-workers>
This panel discussion held last week discusses the economic insecurity facing library workers due to low wages, inadequate benefits, and unstable job conditions. The panel explores the scope and impact of economic insecurity among library staff, highlighting the unique financial challenges they encounter in comparison to other professions. Through personal stories, data, and expert insights, we will discuss how economic instability affects mental health, career advancement, and job performance. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of how to address economic insecurity in their institutions and actionable strategies for supporting financially vulnerable library workers. Thanks to the Colorado State Library for making this resource available to the wider library community. Recording and handouts available from the Colorado State Library.
