Yoto’s vs. Tonies…

They are definitely similar. There are a few reasons why I opted for the Yoto collection vs. the Tonies.

 * One reason is that Yoto cards have a more extensive collection for older readers, so someone can discover the collection at a young age, and the collection is still relevant for them as teens. Tonies only a few titles are in the 7-8 age range, whereas Yoto cards have a significant amount of content even for ages 9+<https://us.yotoplay.com/collections/ages-9-plus> (including the Harry Potter series. Yoto also has Spanish and French titles. Great for native speakers as well as people learning a new language.
 * Both are a good introduction to audiobooks, but the Yoto takes the toy / character out of it, so even older readers can appreciate the content without feeling like they’re using a child’s toy.
 * The use of cards for the audio content instead of a toy / figurine are also easier to store and organize (Card case holder<https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DJXS6JMX/?coliid=I2H9YKAK7LTYZT&colid=3PL76LMG3E28V&ref_=list_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp_it&th=1> ).

You don't often get email from krothley at northvillelibrary.org<mailto:krothley at northvillelibrary.org>. Learn why this is important<https://aka.ms/LearnAboutSenderIdentification>

CAUTION: This email originated from outside of the organization. Do not click links or open attachments unless you recognize the sender and know the content is safe.

We just added Tonies to our collection; they're somewhat similar to Yoto. Tonies have a box that you place a figurine on and it will automatically play stories associated with that particular character. One of our Youth librarians organized the collection and it is going out any day!

I responded to Rebekah in a private email, but I just wanted to say that we created a Yoto card collection of 201 titles this year at Muskegon Area District Library, and we also circulate the Yoto Mini players. The Yoto cards and the Yoto players have been very popular. The Yoto card audio content can also be accessed via the free Yoto app, without a player. Anybody who would like additional information and details about our experience circulating these items, please feel free to reach out.

You can see our Yoto card collection from this page, to see what’s currently checked out: https://madl.org/library-of-things/

Hello,

Do your library circulate a Yoto player in a Library of Things? A board member suggested it as something that is helpful for children struggling with dyslexia. I like the idea of this and want to provide children with this alternative method as physical audiobooks can be tough to utilize nowadays. Currently I have selected a Yoto Mini, carrying case, and about 10 different cards. I also would love to create some of their DIY cards with “story times” recorded by us librarians here.

Please let me know if your library has one/some and how it goes, thanks!
