Unfortunately, I only received one response that wasn't a request to share the answers. Guess this isn't something that other libraries have done, so I get to boldly forge the path! I'll order something and see how it goes, and share my thoughts after (if I remember, I'll also share the link to view the feed with everyone).

Thanks for the advice I was given! Here's the answer one library shared:

Yeah, I would recommend using a 1040p or higher resolution webcam. These are fairly cheap ($30-$40) and provide enough clarity of image that it should work for your purposes. The 2 downsides are that web cams often have a bit of distortion at the edge of the frame given the focal point of the camera and that you may need to invest in a cheap boom arm to hold the camera in place. Given that you intend for this to be a live feed, the webcam would have the easiest interface for a computer.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Subject: [Michlib-l] Live video question

The past couple of years, we've had butterflies in the library, displayed from caterpillar to release. This year, we'd like to set up a live camera feed, something we could display on our website, or provide links to, so people can check on them any time. I'm hoping to get some recommendations for a camera to purchase, that would let us do this. There are so many different kinds of cameras out there to sort through! I am, of course, trying not to break the bank, and I'd prefer something that doesn't transmit audio (in either direction). If anyone has done something like this, or knows more than I do (a low bar), I'd be grateful for the guidance! Thanks!
